The Big Island

Yesterday I participated in Break Free Org's 5k marathon in Oakland. This lovely organization helps to combat human trafficking through education and fundraising events. It was wonderful to see so many people come out and show support for a great charity that helps so many people. Sex slavery is on the rise even more so now then it was a decade ago and it's important that we do something about it.

I don't know what it's like to be trafficked but as a rape survivor I do know that feeling of your body temporarily not belonging to you and the indoctrinated belief that you are a possession and not a person. Whether the duration of the assault lasts five minutes or five years the recovering process is often the same. Oppression is oppression, albeit human trafficking, rape or domestic violence and it must be eradicated. What can we do about it? We can run, walk, talk, listen and educate ourselves and others. We are not on an island by ourselves. This is not 'your world' and we are not just living in it. I am here and so are you. And there are others too: people that are living but are also hurting and need help and a little compassion. It's not your sole duty to save everyone but it is yours to help someone.

Edipus hopes to partner with Break Free for an event in the future. In the meantime, I encourage you to check out their website and learn more here.

Let's take care of one another. The island is big enough.

Dear Somewhat Intelligent Ramblings follower (and Edipus supporter),

It's no secret: I suck. I really do.

It's been over four months since I've updated this blog and I truly apologize. I could list some of the reasons why I haven't been in touch but...do you really need to hear them? Nah. Let's just say life happens and sometimes it ain't all lattes and lap dances.

FYI: I will be updating this site more frequently and getting back into the swing of things.

Lots of love to you all.

Yours,
Sucky McSuckerton

Many Happy Returns

U2 ticket on Instagram
Yesterday was my birthday and I have to say that it was a lovely one. I spent the greater part of the day doing absolutely nothing and received love from those that I cherish most dear. I made my cake (Victoria Sponge), watched Paddington and daydreamed about the U2 concert that I attended the night before (in my commemorated t-shirt, no less).

Another year complete and many more to look forward to. Edipus is taking flight and so am I.

Happy birthday, indeed.

Director Nick Testa and crew setting up for Making Edipus.

Well, I'm pooped.

Today was exhausting and wonderful at the same time. Making Edipus: Episode 1 has been slated, filmed and sent off to the editing room. I can't wait for you to see it.

We're on our way, baby!

Ready

If you follow Edipus' Google+ or subscribe to its newsletter than you may disregard this posting because you've probably already heard the news: I will be filming a documentary for Edipus starting next week!

Yeah, I said it.

On top of exposing Edipus to a broader audience, I feel that the ball is finally starting to roll and that makes me super excited. Unfortunately, I am writing this post at one o'clock in the morning and said excitement is waning. My bed is starting to shout at me and because I have a somewhat unhealthy thread count obsession, I can't seem to resist its allure.

But never fear, I'll catch you up in the coming days.

Long time, eh?

Yes, it has been a long time. If you follow this blog and have been wondering where in the Sam Hill I've been, well, I apologize. It's been a whirlwind of sorts. Let's just say that life happens and sometimes it just...sucks.

But no matter!

I'm back and so is Edipus. If all goes according to plan, I'll be announcing something BIG (well, at least I think so) this weekend and I am mucho excited!

Please stay tuned and keep coming back for updates.

Much love,
J.

P.S. If you feel so inclined, drop me a line on my blog and tell me what's on your mind about Edipus. Questions? Comments? Feedback is always welcomed and appreciated, folks.
